I’ve known Shawn Hennessey for over five years now. I distinctly remember having a beer with her out on the terrace of the Vinería San Telmo – one of her favourite places in Seville – and talking about our projects: (my) cooking workshops and (her) tapas tours. Panepanna and Sevilla Tapas Tours were born around that time, both out of our personal passions and interests, mixed with a love for twitter AND meeting people in real life.
I’ve been following her work throughout these years and shared enough tapas and drinks to know she really knows her
stuff tapas. Last week, when in Seville, Jorge and I had the chance to join one of her newest tours, We Love Tapas tours which are a simpler, shorter and just as tasty version of her main tours.
In two hours you can have a clear introduction to traditional tapas, where they come from, how they’re ordered, how Sevillians ‘live’ them, the history behind the bars… and of course you get the tapas! I won’t disclose what we had – I think it had better stay a surprise – except for the garlich mushrooms, which are one of the vegetarian options you can have. The tour is perfect to get a general idea of the different kind of tapas, and the tour leaders, Aldara and Ana, are extremely helpful and make you feel at ease and looked after.
Shawn’s own work is what inspired us to start our food and wine tours in Galicia, and it’s always inspiring to explore new places with her (not to mention having excellent wine).
